Use TSA Locks To Protect Your Luggage

By: Justin K Taylor

There are times when the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will need to open your luggage and inspect the contents. If it is locked they will need to cut the locks to gain access. However, with TSA approve luggage locks the TSA can use a master key to open your locks without cutting them.

One handy feature of a TSA lock is that you will know it has been opened by a master key. A small red dot on the lock becomes visible when it has been opened.

These locks offer a great convenience for those people who feel the need to keep their luggage contents secure and safe from prying eyes. Even though you could use a standard lock for your luggage, the TSA now has every right to cut it off if they feel the need.

A TSA lock comes with a lifetime warranty and the company will replace the lock if it needs to be cut off by the TSA for any reason. Having a TSA lock on your suitcase also means that you can file a claim more easily if you find that something if missing from your luggage after it has been opened.

Most TSA standard luggage locks contain a combination. Someone opening a TSA standard luggage lock using a master key can't change the locks status unless the combination number is known.

A TSA lock on your suitcase means that some is unlikely to steal anything when they inspect your contents. Anyone who opens the lock would be traceable by the red dot that becomes visible when the master key is used. Thus a TSA lock means that you will have confidence that your luggage is safe when you check it in.

Locks approved by the TSA are cheap. You can pick one up from a luggage or travel store for between $10-$20, or you can find them sold online in luggage web stores at discount prices.
